In another episode, Tyson admitted that he was intoxicated while getting the tattoo done. He said, “I think I was on coca*** at the time. I am drinking and I was f**** wanted to get a badass tattoo. Some mean s*** on my face.”
As boxing fans eagerly anticipate the exhibition match between former heavyweight division in boxing champion Mike Tyson and professional boxer Jake Paul, scheduled for July 20, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and streamed globally on Netflix, there’s more to Mike Tyson than his legendary status in the ring.
He trained with KPMG prior to joining Barry Hearn’s sports promotion business in 1985. He continues to oversee the substantial growth of Matchroom Sport Limited and its associated companies. Steve was involved in Matchroom’s purchase and subsequent sale of Leyton Orient Football Club, and brought about the unique £40m property development project at Leyton Orient’s stadium on Brisbane Road.
Led by Eddie Hearn, Matchroom’s promotional stable of boxers includes World Champions and Olympians from Anthony Joshua to Katie Taylor, Callum Smith to Josh Warrington and many, many more top boxers globally.
Round 1: As expected, the 5-2 ball is super-aggressive from the start. Ford, a sharp-shooting southpaw, finds a home for the left hand to the body. A couple of nice attacks from the challenger, but he can’t penetrate the guard. Body again and a quick combination from Ford.
On 27 November 2021, Zhang faced Craig Lewis on the undercard of Teófimo López vs. George Kambosos Jr. Zhang started the fight off slowly, but dropped Lewis twice in round two, leading Lewis’ corner to throw in the towel, giving Zhang a win by TKO.
Tyson has an original tattoo of Mao Zedong on his right arm, the founder of the Chinese People’s Republic. The great leader was credited with ending civil unrest, which Tyson read about in prison. In 2006 Tyson visited the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, with the Chicago Tribune in tow, to pay respects.
Tyson’s pro career was interrupted by three years in prison after he was sentenced for rape. He returned to the ring but wasn’t the same. He had 14 fights after his release from prison and went 9-5. During that stretch, he endured consecutive losses to Evander Holyfield. He ended his career, losing three out of four fights, falling to Lennox Lewis, Danny Williams, and Kevin McBride.
Later, in 2006, Tyson visited the memorial museum for Chairman Mao in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. There he paid his respects at the mausoleum and reflected that: “standing in front of Chairman Mao’s remains, I felt really insignificant.”
“Criticism comes from the audience who don’t know what happened behind closed doors,” the 38-year-old continued. “I don’t blame them for criticising me. After I came back home from the last fight, I sat down with my team, and we did our homework; we learned our lessons. The way I handle criticism is to learn lessons and to perform better in the next fight. I heard people talking, but that kind of talk becomes my motivation. It drives me through this current training camp, I need to perform better, I need to focus, I need to prepare for things I wasn’t focused on to get rid of this criticism and this talk. The only way to fix it is with no talking, just actions. Words are useless – everybody can talk. I need to go out there and show them what I can do.”
Hrgovic lands a right over the snappy jab of Dubois. And another. And another. He’s finding that right cross early. And another, timing a dip from Dubois. And another. Dubois returns and Hrgovic lands a left. A lot of aggression early from Dubois is creating windows for Hrgovic.
Through it all, Tyson has sought to learn from his experiences and grow as an individual. He has emphasized the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity, and the tattoo serves as a visual representation of these values.
Porter has also been the Chief Executive of Leyton Orient FC in the UK, as well as serving on the board of The Football League. Porter joined Leyton Orient in 2001 as Press Officer, a role which he occupied for five years before being made the youngest chief executive in English football by O’s chairman Barry Hearn in the summer of 2006, aged just 26. His appointment as Chief Executive coincided with the Club’s promotion to League 1 and he oversaw their progression to an established side in the division which included narrowly missing out on promotion at the end of the 2013/14 season.
It’s a pretty basic tattoo and while you can see the resemblance to Turner, it’s not exactly a work of art. It also helps that the tattoo is on the inside of Tyson’s forearm so it’s not the most visible, meaning he doesn’t have to worry about people seeing it all the time.
Under Eddie’s leadership, Matchroom Boxing has returned to the forefront of the sport around the world. In 2018 he agreed a historic $1billion deal with live streaming platform DAZN to stage 16 fights a year across America under Matchroom Boxing USA.
